It is applied on outpatients and inpatients with severe aphasia, who neither cannot be assessed by video nor therefore provide records allowing quantitative assessments of the basic pragmatic competence under evaluation. A third person is invited to participate (a relative, nurse, etc.) and a flexible assessment dynamics is followed as well as the guidelines included in the Script to elicit speech acts. The whole assessment is only sound recorded.
Instrument 2 recording sheet is made up of 100 items (56 items with response categories “never, sometimes, always”, 44 with Yes/No answers). Just like Instrument 1, the same pragmatic features grouped into paralinguistic production, linguistic production and verbal and nonverbal coherence are analyzed, but these features are organized differently in the Informal Record of Speech Acts (Instrument 2).
It has a final item to record the patient’s attitude during the assessment (i.e. aggressive/happy/quiet/passive/apathetic/sad/irritable, etc.).
